Prophetic Inspiration, Divine Possession, Miracles, and the Use of Psychedelics

On Prophetic Inspiration as Higher Consciousness

Prophecy is not some insurmountable supernatural thing of the past but the natural outcome of a soul that has ascended beyond the confines of ego and corporeality. It is a state wherein the vessel has been enlightened enough to receive the light of the Creator without obstruction [for a moment at least]. This enlightenment is more than moral or ethical- it is structural. it is the alignment of the desire to receive with the intention to bestow.

When Moses’ comes into contact with God, he says, “Hineni” (Here I am). This is a declaration that he has fully crossed over to the higher worlds via higher consciousness, and has fully arrived in the present moment [both here and now as well as somewhere other and beyond]. The hineni moment is both a vertical ascent and a horizontal grounding. Vertically, it connects to the supernal realms of Binah and Chochmah. Horizontally, it anchors that inspiration in the world of action (Asiyah), enabling the prophet to act as a vessel of divine will in “physical space”.

With the declaration of his arrival, Moses steps beyond the constraints of linear time, ego, and the momentum of identity into the eternal now. “Here I am, right here in the present moment... with God.” Where is God? Right here, right now. There is a way to tangibly perceive this via higher consciousness. It’s only the limitation of human perception which causes the restricted awareness, the forgetting. This higher consciousness is the ruach hakodesh (holy spirit). It’s unity with the Divine Presence (Shechinah). When Moses experiences this moment, he transcends the temporal and spatial limitations of Malkhut, entering into the realms of Binah [the sefirah of pure understanding and divine compassion]. To say, "Here I am," is to declare one's total arrival in the present moment, tangibly perceiving the Divine Presence. He has acheived nullification before the Infinite, a state where the self becomes a transparent vessel through which the Divine light flows into the world.

The prophetic state, then, is certainly a state of higher consciousness. It is the capacity to perceive reality not as fragmented and dualistic but as a unified whole—a direct experience of the divine Singularity that underlies creation. This hyperdimensional reality is mapped in the Tree of Life, an actual system of worlds (olamot) [or modes of consciousness], where each sefirah represents a distinct aspect of divine manifestation. The prophet moves inward and traverses these worlds [modes of consciousness] to serve as a conduit through which divine wisdom [and action] descends into the physical.

On Divine Possession and Miracles

Divine possession is the ultimate act of surrender, where the ego is nullified to such a degree that the individual no longer acts but witnesses the Creator acting through them. This is not a loss of individuality but its sanctification, where the personal will is harmonized with the divine will. In this state, the individual becomes a partner in the process of creation [tikkun olam (repairing the world)].

Miracles are high intensity interactions of co-creation. Miracles can also be the perception [revelation] of a deeper order that transcends the physical… [the sudden awareness that the Singularity is alive]. Whether or not the miracles of Moses were metaphorical or literal, miraculous things can be done.

To witness a miracle is to observe the Creator's hand within creation, and observation itself becomes part of the co-creative process. The act of perceiving and acknowledging the divine presence intensifies the interaction, amplifying its effects within the world.

On Psychedelics as Catalysts for Higher Consciousness

In Kabbalah, we understand that the human soul is a microcosm of the entire cosmos. The Tree of Life is a reflection of the internal structure of the soul. Every ascent within the sefirot corresponds to a deepening of consciousness, a peeling away of the layers of ego that obscure our perception of the divine light.

Substances that alter consciousness, when approached with sanctity and intention, can and will and do serve as tools to catalyze this ascent. The Talmud teaches, “Wine gladdens the heart and readies the mind for prophecy.” This establishes that prophecy is in fact tied to altered states of consciousness… that altered consciousness absolutely can open the vessel to receive.

If wine readies the mind for prophecy, how much more would LSD open the mind for prophecy? Alcohol doesn’t nearly have the same effect of expanding consciousness, does it?

Theoretically, wouldn’t LSD or psilocybin hold the potential to temporarily dissolve the egoic barriers that trap awareness within the confines of Malkhut? With the proper intention (Kavanah), such experiences can and do provide a direct encounter with the archetypal and hyperdimensional Singularity- as illuminated in the paths of the Tree of Life and described in the mystical texts. However, without the framework of intention and preparation, these states might risk becoming disordered and disconnected from their divine purpose [delusional]. That’s why the secrets of kabbalah are not to be explored prematurely. Just as it would be potentially damaging to give LSD to someone who wasn’t prepared for such an experience… you wouldn’t recommend beginners jump into the depths of the Kabbalistic journey… trip. There could be a potential danger in such a sudden and extremely heightened perception. This is why the secrets of Kabbalah are not encouraged to be sought by most… one shouldn’t prematurely explore the secrets of Kabbalah. It’s a lot like LSD…

The story of the Rabbis entering Pardes describes this danger. Only one righteous rabbi out of four who had attempted to enter the Garden of Eden [inner Eden] had a positive the experience, while one became a heretic, one became insane, and one died. It is not wise to improperly tamper with such an extreme state of heightened consiousness. For the prophet or the initiate though… it’s a different story... And this element of danger is in line with what you would expect if the higher realities are so paradoxical, so mind bending, so beyond what we can make sense of… this is what happens when humans are truly interacting with higher alien realms… some may go insane- but that doesn’t make it inherently false or bad. Pardes wasn’t established as bad or evil simply because the impure who interacted with it became insane or heretical- you see? It is the Orchard- but you must be careful in the Orchard. Is it any surprise to any Jew that certain elements of the mystical tradition have indeed been persecuted, and the direct mystical experience people so often report to have via the psychedelic catalyst has been deemed “illegal?” Psychedelics have always been part of certain Kabbalistic circles, and Aryeh Kaplan admits as much in his book “Meditation and Kabbalah.” Albeit, while it may not have always been accepted by the mainstream, it was always there. Even the University of Jerusalem hypothesize that the encounter Moses had with God via the burning bush was somehow related to DMT and the Acacia tree. If this is true, one might expect to find burnt cannabis on an ancient Israelite alter- say, within the Holy of Holies… and we do. The temple in Tel Arad establishes matter of factually that psychedelics (cannabis) were used purposefully to invoke a state of higher consciousness as part of the worship ceremony.

On Synchronicity and Co-Creation

The interaction between the Creator and creation is constant, and human consciousness plays a pivotal role. Synchronicities are often experienced in heightened states of awareness because they are glimpses into the divine choreography of existence- revalations that there is only One thing happening. Everything is a manifestation of the same underlying cause- the Conscious Singularity, the One Living God. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that one would perceive synchronicity in higher consciousness… tangibly experiencing the interconnectedness of all things… undeniably aware of the presence of a higher order operating beneath the surface of apparent chaos.

On Responsibility and Integration

The pursuit of higher consciousness carries with it great responsibility. The vessel must be prepared and the intention must be purified if one wants to reach Yetzirah, Beriah, and Atzilut. The insights gained must also be integrated into daily life. Without these elements, the experience risks becoming fragmented and devoid of lasting impact— delusional.

The Kabbalist approaches these tools not as an end but as a means, a scaffolding to ascend the Tree of Life. Once the higher states are reached, the soul stands in direct communion with the Creator.

The soul is destined for union with the Infinite- some piece of us [our higher soul] is already there in Atzilut. The hyperdimensional reality accessed by the prophets is the true nature of existence, hidden beneath the veil human of perception.

We are lucky enough to have been given the tools to ascend this ladder of consciousness, to repair the fractures within our own souls and within the world. When approached properly with reverence and intention, the experiences of prophecy and higher consciousness become not only possible but inevitable.
